In St. Laurence's we feel that a broad and balanced understanding of history is essential if our children are to become confident, informed, critical and responsible members of society. The history curriculum offers many opportunities for the children to work as historians as they study the lives of people of the past. We are fortunate to have a very rich historical environment within easy reach of the school. The study of buildings and common features of the locality allows us to develop the children's historical understanding in a very meaningful way.
The geography curriculum is concerned with developing the child's understanding and appreciation of the world in which he/she lives. During their time in St. Laurence's the children will study a variety of human environments, beginning with their own homes and extending to include examples from a range of wider environments. They will also look at the natural environment, within their own locality and then beyond to regional, national, European and global contexts.
