Music
Music is a part of life and life is full of rhythm, movement and sound. We all have a pulse, we speak with rhythm, our voices vary in pitch and our movements convey our mood. Music is sociable and it is fun. It encourages co-operation and a broader awareness of cultures, while creative composition can develop the imagination.
In St. Laurence’s we provide each child with the opportunity to participate in music within the classroom environment. Throughout his/her school life each child will have the opportunity to play percussion instruments, play the recorder, learn to sight read music, participate in a school play, learn songs from different cultures and lands and sing at the Christmas carol service. All children will be able to attend live music performances; Irish music during Seachtain na Gaeilge, Visit the N.C.H. for the Music In The Classroom concert and sing in the National Children’s Choir.
Each child will be given the opportunity to become a member of the school choir. In previous years the choir has sung at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Greystones and at local feiseanna. They have recorded music for "Choirs for Christmas" competition that has been played on Lyric FM. The choir also sing at the celebration of the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation.
